Our Doctrine

1. Holy Scriptures (The Bible)

We believe (The Bible) the sixty-six books, as originally written comprising the Old and new Testaments, were verbally inspired, written by Spirit-controlled individuals and are therefore entirely free from error and absolutely authoritative. We believe that "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God" and is the supreme revelation of God's will for all people in matters of Faith and Practice and the True basis of Christian union.

II Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:19-21;  I Corinthians 2:13; Matthew 5:17-18;

Revelation 22:18-19; Joshua 1:8.

2. The Godhead

We believe there is one Living and True God who is the infinite, personal, holy, sovereign being, creator and governor of all things. We believe that the Godhead

eternally exists in Three Persons, The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit and that these are One God, equal in power and glory, having precisely the same nature, attributes and perfections; worthy of homage, confidence and obedience.

6:4; Isaiah 63:8-10.

3. Jesus Christ

We believe in the essential Deity of Jesus Christ in His eternal existence with the Father in pre-incarnate glory. We believe in His virgin birth, full humanity, sinless life, atoning death, bodily resurrection, triumphant ascension. We believe in His mediatorial and intercessory ministry and His personal, bodily, visible, glorious return to establish His kingdom of righteousness and peace.

I Thessalonians 1:9-10; Hebrews 7:25; I Peter 2:22-24;  Revelation 1:8.

4. Holy Spirit

We believe in the absolute and essential Deity of the Holy Spirit. The Third person of the Trinity Who convinces of sin, righteousness and of judgement. We believe that when the Holy Spirit came upon the whole company of believers on the Day of Pentecost as promised by Christ, they were collectively baptised into one body, which was the birth of the church, The Body of Christ. Since that time, this baptism occurs individually at the moment of salvation at which time the believer is indwelt by the Spirit. We believe that the Holy Spirit regenerates and sanctifies the believer and that being 'filled' with the Spirit is the believer's privilege and duty, producing power in Christian witness. We believe that the Holy Spirit illuminates, comforts, and gives gifts of ministry to those who believe in Jesus Christ and that it is not God's will that any one gift should be given to all believers, although all believers have at least one gift.

I Corinthians 14:23-40; Galatians 5:22-23; Ephesians 1:13-14; Hebrews 9:14.

5. Satan

We believe that Satan is a personal devil, the father of all lies, a murderer from the beginning, full of subtlety and deception, continually seeking to frustrate the plans of God and to ensnare mankind. He is assisted by a host of demons which the Scriptures identify as fallen angels. We believe that he and his hosts were defeated in the work of Jesus Christ at the Cross. Satan will be cast into the abyss for a thousand years and finally committed to the Lake of Fire along with all his demons to be tormented forever and ever.

2:14-15; John 8:44; Revelation 12:9; 20:1-3, 7-10; Genesis 3:15; Job 1:6-12.

6. Humanity

We believe that all human beings were created in the image and after the likeness of God. We believe that man sinned through willful disobedience to God; in so doing, the penalty of death was then and there inflicted incurring physical and Spiritual death.

We believe that this spiritual death, a total corruption of human nature, has been transmitted to all mankind, the man Jesus Christ alone, excepted. As a consequence, all of mankind (every child of Adam) is now a sinner, having a sinful nature.

Ephesians 2:1-3; Romans 3:10-28; 5:12-19; Revelation 20:11-15.

7. Salvation

We believe that salvation is the sovereign, electing grace of God; that by the appointment of the Father, Christ voluntarily suffered a vicarious (dying in our place), expiatory (atonement - redeemed solely by the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ) and propitiatory (all sufficient sacrifice acceptable to God) death. We believe that justification is by grace alone through faith alone in the full and sufficient sacrifice and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ and that those whom God has effectually called shall be divinely preserved (Eternal Security) and finally perfected in the image of God. We believe that salvation is wholly apart from works and is received upon the sole condition of repentance and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. We believe we must be born again, being regenerated by the power of the Holy Spirit, through the Word of God thus becoming the recipient of a new nature.

8. Future Things

We believe in the personal, bodily and glorious return of the Lord Jesus Christ; that this present age will end with His coming; and He will reign in righteousness for a thousand years. We believe in the resurrection of the just and the unjust; in the eternal blessedness of the redeemed and in the judgement and conscious, eternal punishment of the wicked.

4:13-18: Titus 2:13; Hebrews 9:28; II Peter 2:9; Revelation 20:5-6; 11-15; 21:8.

9. Ordinances

We believe that there are only two ordinances for the church regularly observed in the New Testament in the following order:

a.     Baptism, prescribed for believing disciples as a symbol and proclamation of the believer's identification with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection, and in obedience to His command. We believe and practice immersion as the mode presented in the New Testament in accordance with its word meanings, examples and symbolism.

b.     The Lord's Supper, that our Lord and Saviour prescribed for His believing disciples; a memorial wherein the believer partakes of the two elements, the bread and wine, which symbolizes the Lord's body and blood, proclaiming His death until He comes.

Matthew 26:26-29; 28:18-20; Luke 22:19-20; Acts 2:38; 41; 8:12; 36-39;

Romans 6:3-5: I Corinthians 11:23-27.

10. The Church

We believe that the church universal is comprised of all the redeemed and comes to visible expression in local congregations of believers; called out from the world, separated unto the Lord Jesus, exists for the ministry of the Word, for mutual edification of its members, for the propagation of the faith, and the observance of the ordinances. We believe it is a sovereign, independent body exercising its own divinely awarded gifts, precepts and privileges, under the Lordship of Christ the Great Head of the church. We believe that the officers of the local church are pastors (elders) and deacons whose qualifications are defined in the Pastoral Epistles.

Titus I:1-2; 2; Revelation 2 and 3.

11. Church. State and Civil Government

We believe in the separation of church and state, each having a distinct purpose as ordained by God. The Christian has personal responsibilities to each as outlined in Scripture. We believe that Civil government is of divine appointment for the interest and good order of society and that Civil authorities are to be prayed for, conscientiously honoured and obeyed except in the things opposed to the will of God, who is the only Lord of the conscience and Sovereign over the rulers of the earth.

Matthew 22:21; Acts 5:29; Romans 13:1-7; Ephesians 4:11-16; I Timothy 2:1-2;

Hebrews 13:7, I Peter 2:13-17.

12. Marriage and Family

We believe that the family is one of God's primary institutions in the world along with the church and civil government. The Scriptures provide us with God's standards and expectations for the home and the family. Biblically, marriage is defined as a life-long, exclusive heterosexual covenant between one man and woman. According to God's design, human sexuality is to be expressed and enjoyed as a gift from God within this context.

Genesis 2: 23-24; Hebrews 13:4; Leviticus 18; Romans l:26-27; I Corinthians 6:9-11.

We also affirm that while children are gifts from God, parents are responsible before God to raise their children to know God by their example of faith and their instruction in the faith.
